The National Petroleum Corporation of Spain (PCG) and the British Plastic Energy Company (Plastic Energy Ltd) signed a memorandum of understanding to cooperate with plastic waste that Malaysia cannot recycle in the traditional way. This strategic cooperation marks the first step in the plastic value chain to achieve a circular economy that maximizes.plastic recycling machine.
PCG and Plastic Energy will jointly conduct a feasibility study to convert plastic waste into Tacoil. Tacoil is a raw material used by Plastic Energy to produce recyclable, high-quality plastics from low-quality, mixed plastic waste that would otherwise be incinerated or landfilled. Based on the findings, PCG and Plastic Energy may consider building a commercial plant in Malaysia.
The partnership will enable PCG to use the Tacoil from Plastic Energy to produce polymers at the Bianjialan Petrochemical Complex, and to obtain the International Sustainable Development and Carbon Certification (ISCC) recycled polymer certification. ISCC is a leading globally applicable certification system that ensures compliance with high ecological and social sustainability requirements, reduced greenhouse gas emissions and traceability throughout the supply chain.
Plastic Energy has successfully commercialized a patented thermochemical conversion technology that converts end-of-life, contaminated plastics and plastics that are difficult to recycle in traditional processes into usable materials. Currently, Plastic Energy has established two commercial plants in Seville and Almeria, Spain.
If the project is realized, PCG will become the first petrochemical company in Southeast Asia to invest in a chemical recycling project that aims to convert mixed plastic waste into a good quality polymer.
Datuk Sazali Hamzah, Managing Director and CEO of PCG, commented on the partnership: “Our partnership with Plastic Energy is in line with our goal of becoming an advanced energy and solutions partner that enriches people for a sustainable future. Life. As a responsible business entity, we embed the sustainability agenda into our operations as a key driver of business growth and value creation for our stakeholders. We advocate for our business goals and sustainability. There is a balance in the obligation.”
He added: “PCG is a responsible company and recently set up a task force to play an active role in implementing new plastics economic measures to address the problems caused by plastic waste and to provide a sustainable environment. solution.”
Carlos Monreal, founder and CEO of Plastic Energy, said: “Malaysia has indicated that its challenge in dealing with plastic waste is serious. We are very excited to be involved and work with PCG to change the model and turn plastic waste into Valuable resources to contribute to the creation of a circular economy. Working together can help reduce plastic pollution, which is becoming an important goal for governments and companies around the world.”
Plastic Energy is the only company in the world that has successfully and successfully converted domestic long-lived plastics into commercial use. Its team of technical experts has more than 50 years of experience in developing unique thermal anaerobic (TAC) cycle processes.
This is the first step for PCG to move towards a circular economy. The company is determined to continue to reduce its impact on the environment in a first-class way and to maintain its operations in an economically, environmentally and socially responsible manner.
Petronas and Plastic Energy have reached an agreement to build a chemical recycling plant in the new plant in Johor, Malaysia.
