Food Plastic Packing In USA | Plastic recycling

According to foreign media reports, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued a no-objection letter, Envision Plastics will use Ocean Bound brand high-density polyethylene. Plastic recycling machine

This high density polyethylene is made from waste plastic collected from a waterway 50 kilometers from the coast. The US FDA mentioned in the letter that under the conditions of using hydrocarbons, there is no objection to the complete use of recycled high-density polyethylene in all food type packaging.

Consolidated Container Corp. (CCC) is one of the largest suppliers of rigid plastic packaging in North America and one of the first manufacturers in the world to offer 100% recycled plastic bottles (excluding colorants).

Through its recycling subsidiary, Envision Plastics, CCC uses plastics collected in waterways for about 30 miles (or 50 kilometers) as a raw material for its OceanBound resin. The US Food and Drug Administration has published a no-objection letter to OceanBound that clears the way for food contact packaging.

Mark Shafer, senior vice president and general manager of Envision Plastics, said that so far, the company has been supplying this resin for electronics packaging, sunglasses and other non-food products.

Later in 2018, Nurture Hospitality Group, which manufactures containers for hotel bathroom facilities, also said it would switch to OceanBound resin and use nOcean, the abbreviation “No Ocean”, to identify the bottles and bathtubs.

Schafer said: “We fully expect this will significantly increase demand, because our customers have been asking us to get NOL (no objection letter).”

This letter gives brand owners more peace of mind when using the resin. Although the resin is already available for other applications, such as personal care products, the company expects the new environment to provide the company with a broader application of inspiration.

The federal government, from a government perspective, does not approve any recycled plastic for food contact. The agency only said that it would not object and publish a letter, but this move opened the door to no objection.

Plastics in the environment are a hot topic that has caught the attention of industry, environmentalists and the public.

Marine plastics are a particularly critical issue because opponents of disposable plastics point out that this problem is one of the reasons for prohibiting these products.

In recent years, many people in the plastics industry have come to realize that plastics must be better managed after use. For example, the Ending Plastic Waste Alliance is a company-funded cross-industry and multinational organization that aims to build projects and systems that address this issue.

“As one of the larger recycling HDPE processors in North America, we have provided a lot of assistance,” Shafer said. “Many organizations have worked very hard and we have been fully supporting them as they work to further collect these materials and process them back into useful thing.”

CCC and Envision have collection points in Ritzville, North Carolina, USA, and Chino, Calif., has also established supply chain projects to collect plastic waste, load them into containers and send them to the company’s two processing sites. One.

Brian Hankin, senior vice president of CCC innovation, strategy and business development, said: “We are doing this in response to the requirements of many customers, they said, ‘We want more supply, we want to enter the market’. Marine plastic is our society A question. So what I want to say is that although it may be a bit blunt, we have eliminated this obstacle. We have been working hard to achieve this goal. Now we want to work with some organizations to bring it to market to meet the terminal. User needs.”

These plastics were collected by residents of Haiti and another location that CCC refused to disclose. In terms of pollution, OceanBound’s recycled plastics are not much different from HDPE collected in the United States. Schafer pointed out that these materials may be less polluted given market conditions.

The key to the project is CCC and Envision’s commitment to supply chain logistics to help locals manage the plastics they handle. Shafer said the work includes “helping organizations in these regions learn how to identify and collect plastics, how to motivate local residents to collect plastics, how to safely pack, and, just as importantly, how to safely unload while ensuring safe unloading.”
